Here’s a trip down memory lane…before we opened Yardbird in 2017, we spent time traveling the United States. For those of you who don’t know, the South is known as the ‘Mecca’ for fried chicken; it’s a way of life, a staple, a cuisine that brings people together. We have a massive respect for the art of making fried chicken, so before we opened, it was important for us to learn how to do it well.
We started out in Atlanta, and it was there that we learned how to make mouth-watering fried chicken. As we continued the journey, we quickly realized that each region represents some vastly different styles and flavours: Atlanta is known for its incredibly tender Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Nashville for its hot-hot-heat!, and St. Louis for its juicy home brines. This level of diversity inspired us to create the menu you see today.
At Yardbird, we’ve got a pretty laid back approach – the scene is lively, warm, and has a touch of Southern Hospitality. Our favourite kind of space is somewhere you can go on a date, which can also double for a big night out with your crew.
Yardbird was founded by Thomas, Stephan & Kirtanya von Matt in September 2017. They are the owners behind the Von Matt Hospitality Group (VMHG), a hospitality company based out of Zurich with several boutique restaurant concepts under their belt. Thomas and Stephan are brothers, Kirtanya is Thomas’ wife. The three partners started working together in 2013, and are now focusing on bringing Yardbird to your local neighbourhood.
As per the measures taken by the BAG, reservations are only possible with a Covid certificate and valid ID.
If the weather is nice, our terrace is open. Seating is on a "first come - first serve" basis.
